Learn to swim & learn to dive
4. Gaining trust step by step
It is important for the learner to be able to trust their teacher completely. Give
them a lot of time to get used to the water and practice in chest-high water
until they gain the confidence to go further. A calm voice, eye contact and
supportive touches will give them a sense of safety.
A common mistake:
If the teacher promises not to let go of the learner or to catch them when they
jump into the water, then they must keep that promise, even if learning may
take a little longer that way.
