How to swim & how to dive
14.1. Slowly reducing floatation aids
A safe and simple option for learning to swim is gradually cutting down on
floatation aids.
With this method, many parents can even teach their children to swim
themselves. As long as their technique is correct and the learner is strong
enough, swim disks or cork floats can be removed little by little. With a little
patience, the child will soon be able to swim without any floatation aids.
Two things can be observed here. On the one hand, floatation aids come
in different designs and it is important to ensure that they are firmly fixed
and can't come apart or slip off by themselves ‒ while on the other, the
number of swim corks and disks, or the air in the swimming pillow should
be varied slightly.
