How to swim & how to dive
13.3. The art of taking small steps
When learning to swim and dive, it makes sense to systematically build the
exercises on top of one another, step by step. For example, pool steps are
ideal for placing a diving object one step lower each time. This enable the
learner to celebrate their achievements step by step and also to go back
up a step to build up their courage again.
Later on, the diving toys can be set out in patterns on the pool bottom. The
diving exercise can begin with all the toys simply lying in a row. The
exercise can be made more challenging by setting out the objects in a
zigzag and finally in triangles or rectangles.
Children love to choose the patterns themselves or to hide a diving toy in
the water for another child.
